As you are aware, we are now battling against the COVID-19 outbreak.

In this difficult situation, we seek assistance from members to follow the recommendations stated below at your workplace:

  1. Adherence to recommended safety measures such as - clean and disinfect company premises regularly, frequent hand washing, cleaning surfaces, etc. (two images attached herewith could be printed and displayed at your work place)
  1. Cancellation/ postponement of all physical meetings except under exceptional circumstances in which case one metre distance must be observed among participants with other measures available such as the use of hand sanitizers
  1. Avoid shaking hands and instead greet people with the traditional ‘Ayubowan’.
  1. Enable the workforce to work from home as much as possible. This may require the relaxation of some IT controls and processes to enable a larger group of employees to work from home
  1. Utilise existing video conferencing software such as Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype, Blue Jeans etc. to facilitate meetings within the company, clients and external parties.
  1. In sectors where essential services need to be provided (such as banks, healthcare, retail trade etc.), operate with a minimum level of staff daily and on a roster basis.
  1. Provide transport if possible to employees who travel using public methods
  1. Having a designated officer in each company/ business premise (ideally from HR or Administration) to take charge and do the needful in the event of the identification of a suspected case of Covid – 19 within the workplace.
  1. Having a room allocated in each office with necessary facilities to be used in case a suspected patient needs to be isolated until removed from the premise.
  1. Immediately inform “Suwa Seriya” Ambulance service on 1990 in the case of a suspected patient being identified.
  1. All those persons who came into contact or were in close proximity to the suspected patient to take maximum precautions such as washing hands and following a period of self-quarantine at home
  1. Brief your employees, contractors and customers that if coronavirus starts spreading, anyone with even a mild cough or fever will need to stay at home
  1. Retain the names and contact details of all persons visiting the premises for at least one month. This will help public health authorities trace people who may have been exposed to COVID-19 if one or more persons become ill shortly after the meeting/event.
  1. Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak available on the Epidemiology Unit, Ministry of Health and the WHO website - www.epid.gov.lk - health.gov.lk and www.who.int/srilanka
