The progression of Sri Lanka’s economic development has faced abrupt interruptions in the past. Natural calamities, power crises, security threats, and numerous other shocks have all contributed to this. The response has been insufficient and resulted in negative impact on the country’s  brand image. As a country, it is imperative that we work towards a stable country, and have favourable government policies – all which will help improve investor confidence.

The session on Building a Resilient Economy at the Sri Lanka Economic Summit (SLES) 2019 will explore the readiness of Sri Lanka’s institutions and businesses to be resilient. It will also examine if Sri Lanka has the necessary infrastructure in place, and capacity to manage these risks.

Mr Aslam Perwaiz, Deputy Executive Director, Asian Disaster Preparedness, will be the keynote speaker at the panel providing a regional perspective. Other panelists will feature Gen. Mahesh Senanayake, former Commander, Sri Lanka Army; Dr Tilak Siyambalapitiya, Managing Director, Resource Management Associates Pvt Ltd; Prof. Buddhi Marambe, Director, Agriculture Education Unit at the University of Peradeniya;    Mr Sanath C de Silva, CEO, National Insurance Trust Fund, Sri Lanka, and Mr Kanishka Lad, Security Specialist, South Asia, International SOS. The session will be moderated by Prof. Rohan Samarajiva, Founding Chair, LIRNEasia & Chairman, ICTA.
